Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House

Many families travel far from home and spend several weeks or months to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) acknowledges that some families are in their hard times to find both short-term and long-term accommodation. Therefore, RMHC plans and allocates the budget to build the “Ronald McDonald House (RMH)” for families of hospitalized children so they can stay at the house at no cost.

Ronald McDonald House program in Thailand has initiated in 2010 and it is the “home-away-from-home” for families where they can stay close to their hospitalized children with a serious medical crisis. The objectives of program include:

  1. Provide a home-away-from-home to support families of serious ill children in Thailand at no cost. Payments for usage will be voluntary.
  2. Provide basic facilities for families traveling far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children; e.g. mother who gave preterm birth.
  3. Offer a comfortable atmosphere for families and their children where the familiar routines of home life can continue as much as possible. The House offers compassion and understanding in a stressful and often frightening time.

Criteria of Ronald McDonald House guests

Due to the shelter's limited capacity, Ronald McDonald House guests and families are selected by Ronald McDonald House committees which consist of hospital’s director, doctors, nurses, social workers and RMHC representatives. The priority is given to parents or relatives of those whose children live far away from the hospital, impoverished families or those who cannot find both short-term and long term accommodation.
